  126.      This version of Private Secretary(tm) is distributed as ShareWare.

  128.      You may evaluate the program for up to 30 days.  If you continue
  129.      using the program beyond that period, you are required by copyright
  130.      law to pay the registration fee of $25, or delete all uncompressed
  131.      copies of the program and its supporting files.

  133.      You may share unregistered copies of the program to other
  134.      individuals, clubs, groups and local BBS services.  You may not
  135.      charge for it or distribute it on media for which a charge is made
  136.      without permission from Integrated Support Technology. If you wish to

  143.      it will not include the data files that Private Secretary creates

  150.      If you do not have the compressed file package, and wish to share
  151.      copies of the program, be sure to copy the complete file package as
  152.      described below.  However, DO NOT distribute the files with the "PS_"
  153.      prefix or your settings and phone numbers could be distributed
  154.      world-wide in a matter of months.  I will get lots of calls because
  155.      the default settings weren't set right and you will get lots of
  156.      unexplained pages or calls.  If you received the "PS_" files with the
  157.      program, DELETE them before you run the program for the first time. 
  158.      Private Secretary will make a fresh set just for you.  At the DOS
  159.      prompt>DEL PS_*.DAT, will do the trick.

  202.      Prior to program registration, free technical support is available
  203.      via E-mail, FAX  or postal correspondence at the numbers and
  204.      addresses listed under Registration, which are answered promptly.

  206.      While these are always the preferred methods, If you do not have
  207.      access to these forms of communication, you may call (408) 370-1773.
  208.      The best time to call is between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM Pacific Time 
  209.      Mon-Sat.  If you get a recording, please leave a detailed message
  210.      regarding your question, allow at least 24 hours to formulate a
  211.      solution and then try again.

  213.                               INITIAL START UP
  214.                               ----------------
  215.      
  216.      When Private Secretary starts the first time, it will present the
  217.      "Auto Registration" screen.  If you are not yet registered, just
  218.      answer N (no) and skip to the next paragraph.  If you have a
  219.      previously registered version, place this version in the same
  220.      directory as your registered copy and your settings files, and have
  221.      your serial number handy.  Answer Y (yes), and this version will lead
  222.      you through the automatic registration sequence and will use your
  223.      existing settings, adding any new features to them when it starts up.
  224.      
  225.      After the credits screen, Private Secretary creates a series of small
  226.      files it uses to store program settings, phone numbers and reminder
  227.      times as outlined above.  As part of this sequence, it will bring up
  228.      the Phone Number settings screen the first time it runs.  What it is
  229.      asking for is the phone number of your pager or another phone that
  230.      you want it to call when it notifies you of calls received.  You can
  231.      enter a number when the screen comes up or just press ENTER and bring
  232.      it up under the Settings Menu later.

  242.                              GENERAL INFORMATION
  243.                              -------------------

  245.      One IMPORTANT concept to remember is that Private Secretary does not
  246.      hear or send voice information (it leaves that task to your answering
  247.      machine).  It does its thing by detecting the ring signal sent to it
  248.      by your modem and then uses the modem to dial out to you and send you
  249.      a series of touch tones to identify itself and send you a "Digital
  250.      Message".  It does not know, and therefore can not report, who called
  251.      or what the message was.  You get this information by retrieving the
  252.      messages on your answering machine.  Through use of special ring
  253.      timing sequences (explained in more detail in the PSGUIDE), it can be
  254.      set up to recognize when you are retrieving your messages and not to
  255.      dial out for those calls.
  256.      
  257.      Private Secretary requires the following hardware:
  258.      
  259.              * Hayes/AT compatible auto-dial modem.
  260.              * Any standard remote call pick-up answering machine.
  261.                (to provide the voice-mail capabilities)
  262.              * P/C AT or higher w/CGA monitor or higher.
  263.                (some XTs may work depending on the manufacturer)
  264.              * DOS 3.1 or higher. (lower versions MAY work)
  265.              * Digital Pager Service (Recommended)
  266.      
  267.      Because Private Secretary waits for a response at the sign on screen,
  268.      the power failure (restoration) reporting feature of Private
  269.      Secretary will not work until the program is registered.  Once
  270.      Private Secretary is registered, the sign on/sign off screens will go
  271.      away and Private Secretary will run without intervention allowing the
  272.      power fail reporting feature to perform when selected by the user.
  273.      
  274.      Although it would greatly reduce the cost of distribution, it is not
  275.      feasible to attempt to include the 40+ page illustrated manual in the
  276.      file package (the source for which is nearly a half a megabyte).
  277.      Formatting the illustrations with ASCII characters,just so we could
  278.      do so, would not do justice to the program or to you.  Therefore, the
  279.      documentation supplied is not intended to replace the manual but
  280.      hopefully will provide enough basic information for you to get
  281.      Private Secretary up and running quickly and give it a good work out.
